RML’s SLR McLaren 722 GT With Its Own Race Series

There have been images floating around the internet for a few weeks showing what this car looks like and now RML Ltd. has formally announced the project.

The ‘Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT’ has been developed so that members of the SLR. Club can go racing – in their own series. The 722 GT has been specifically designed for the track, and has no approval for road use. Examples will compete in the SLR. Club Trophy, in Europe.

The ‘basic’ car has been “comprehensively re-engineered by RML, especially with respect to the suspension, braking system, aerodynamics, interior and exhaust system”.

More than 400 components were redesigned, leaving a car with 680 bhp and 830 Nm of torque, and a kerb weight of 1390 kg. Power is transferred via an automatic transmission.

Centre lock wheels and a pneumatic jack system will speed up wheel changes at pit stops.

A maximum of 21 vehicles will be produced. Servicing and participation in racing events will be managed by RML, in collaboration with the SLR.SAFETY & SPEED ACADEMY.

The owners of cars already ordered are all members of the SLR. CLUB – a highly exclusive community which organises events relating to the SLR and is chaired by Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars. The SLR.SAFETY & SPEED ACADEMY forming part of the SLR. CLUB offers special driver training courses, and enables customers to acquire a national Category A racing licence. Instructors for the SLR. CLUB include David Coulthard, Klaus Ludwig, Jochen Mass, Chris Goodwin and Christina Surer.

The cost of one of the cars is 775,000 Euros.

How decadent can you go, is de enige vraag die in mij opkomt als ik dit zie en lees...

Lijken mij de laatste stuiptrekkingen te zijn van een bedrijf dat op de verkeerde paarden aan het wedden is... Mooie paarden misschien wel, maar hoogstwaarschijnlijk de verkeerde.

Wat bedoel je daarmee?

Dat ze deze auto maar niet gebruiken als referentie voor Ratel's visie op GT's, want 775 000 euro voor zo'n auto ... :cool:

Dan zijn de huidige GT's toch wel betere "bang for bucks." ;)
