Big brother visits Ralf in hospital
Mario Theissen was also there

Ralf goes to the hospital

Michael Schumacher didn't do his famous 'Schumi leap' on the Indy podium. The German has admitted he feared for his little brother after Ralf backed his BMW-Williams into the banked Indianapolis oval-corner at something like 300km/h.

''I remembered Monza,'' said Michael, who was at the test-track when Ralf was knocked out. ''I went to the medical centre and he wasn't in good condition.''

'' Today I drove past and just saw him there, his head just sitting there, and - knowing what happened to him at Monza - it was a big concern. I was worried.''

Michael, 35, barked down his Ferrari's in-car radio. ''I was saying 'what's going on,' 'why is he still there?'. I don't think I could have raced if we weren't under the Safety Car.''

Schumacher confirmed the 'first thing' he would do after a post-race press conference would be to visit the recovering Ralf in a downtown Indy hospital.

The German, visited by BMW director Mario Theissen in the track's medical centre after a 310km/h shunt at Indianapolis, is 'bruised and shaken' but otherwise ok. A source said Ralf, 28, will 'definitely' stay in hospital overnight.

Another source said he might stay there for 'several days.' ''I saw him when he was getting a first check,'' said Theissen. ''I spoke to him for a bit and he is ok.''

The massive rear-first shunt into the banked oval wall was caused by a deflated left rear tyre, Williams' tyre partner Michelin confirmed after an examination.

''It’s clear [it] was damaged ... probably in the wake of the [first corner shunt],'' said Pierre Dupasquier, who said Fernando Alonso had the same problem.
