De FIA komt met een alternatief voorstel (in plaats van het niet-turbo Super2000 reglement).

FIA: new technical shock
7 Oct, 16:11

FIA President Max Mosley has put forward drastic changes to the World Rally Car rules for the 2006 World Championship, blaming the manufacturers for failing to propose cost-cutting measures of their own.

A letter has been circulated to the manufacturers today in which Mosley has suggested that the World Championship faces steady decline if new rules appealing to a wider range of car makers are not introduced. The recommendations include a ban on hydraulics in the transmission and drivetrain, restricted or standardised ECUs, a ban on exotic materials, along the lines of the new F1 rules, standardised turbos and a list of permitted sensors, which would further restrict electronics. Component life would also be extended and further restrictions could also be placed.

The proposal appears to be an alternative to the non-turbo Super 2000 category suggested for the 2006 World Championship a fortnight ago.

Mosley has also described a request to reduce the number of World Championship rallies as “self-defeating,” on the basis that manufacturers’ fixed costs would remain the same with fewer rallies.

Ik denk dat alle fabrikanten hier akkoord mee kunnen gaan: kostenbesparing maar toch behoud van turbo motoren. Ford zal hierdoor wel moeten kiezen tussen WRC en WTCC.
