News update sunday monrning :
Loeb krijgt penalty !!!
From the word go it became evident that the Citroen Sport team was going to have a tough time at the Monte Carlo Rally. On Friday morning they lost two of their drivers due to engine problems, but things were looking up as their sole remaining driver, Sebastien Loeb, took the lead in the rally on Friday and was able to maintain it through Saturday's leg as well.
But on Saturday evening, during a short service break, the Citroen team changed the tyres on Loeb's Xsara in an area where it is prohibited and therefore incurred a two minute penalty for the Frenchman. Loeb, who had been 28 seconds ahead of Tommi Makinen and leading the rally, has now lost the lead to the Subaru driver because of the penalty.
At present Loeb is approximately one and a half minutes behind Makinen and could soon find himself being threatened by Ford Focus driver Carlos Sainz, as the Spaniard is just 16 seconds behind him.
The Citroën team has appealed the decision, and for now the classification is suspended.
