Freddy Loix made a spectacular return to the Castrol Hyundai squad on Thursday, setting second quickest time at the shakedown less than a fortnight after breaking a bone in his ankle on the Monte Carlo Rally. But team boss David Whitehead warned that his Belgian driver hadn't done anywhere near enough testing and that he was consequently under no pressure to get a result.

"To be honest, there is nearly no pain," Loix disclosed. "They put a special protection round my ankle and I cannot do any damage, even if I am pushing very hard with the left foot, because I brake all the time with my left foot. I feel very safe with it. Inside the car, it's looking a bit like an automatic! It's got a very big brake pedal and a very small clutch, but we only use the clutch at the start and the finish of the stage."
