- Engine management: Bosch MS 2.9.2 (DTM standard)
- Engine lubrication: Dry sump, Castrol lubricants
- Displacement: 3998 cc
- Output: about 455 hp (335 kw) at 6800 rpm
- Torque: about 510 Nm at 6000 rpm

The engine ancillaries including the induction and exhaust systems number among these details. When compared with last year, the greatest changes are found in this area. Visible at first glance: The exhaust pipes protrude form the side of the car in front of the rear wheels.

Bij de aankondiging dat Audi de volgende 3 jaar (2006-2008) verder geengageerd blijft in DTM, zegt het persbericht:

In the 2006 DTM, Audi will be competing with an A4 DTM version that has been subjected to further development, bearing the internal project name "R12 plus". Apart from modifications to the aerodynamics and suspension, the A4 DTM will be fitted with a new V8 engine which has been running on the dyno since the end of October.

Ik concludeer hieruit dat Audi tot vorig jaar de Mugen V8 gebruikt heeft (maar steeds verder ontwikkeld heeft) en dat dit jaar een eigen V8 gebruikt zal worden. Als dit inderdaad het geval is, zal Audi voor de start van het DTM seizoen wel in de verf willen zetten dat ze een V8 gebruiken afgeleid van de nieuwe RS4 V8 of zo.
