"The top privateer Aston Martin DBR9 in the world is set to be taken away from Cirtek Motorsport.
The GT1 car, which won last year's FIA GT finale in Bahrain, looks increasingly likely to be run by a new operation known as Team Modena before the end of the season. The name already appears on the side of the car, but it has so far been billed as an umbrella organisation designed to complement Cirtek's activities.
Team Modena, which was established by car owner Ric Bryan, has now revealed that it wants to set up its own structure to run the car. That could be in place as early as the Nürburgring Le Mans Series round in July.
Team Modena commercial director Mark Gallagher said: "Ric would like to have his own team, which is why he founded Team Modena. Our plan is to eventually take over the running of the car."
Gallagher stressed that there would be no change prior to the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 17/18. "For Le Mans we will be totally with Cirtek," he said.
Cirtek's Rob Schirle was unavailable for comment.
