Spyker: no plans to test Verstappen
The Spyker team have no plans to test former Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, despite the Dutchman admitting he is looking for an opportunity to return to the wheel of a Grand Prix car.
Verstappen, who has not driven a Formula One car since the 2003 season, wrote in his column in De Telegraaf that he was in talks with Spyker boss Michiel Mol about the possibility of a test with the Dutch team.
"I'm looking forward to the test but there needs to be a plan, it's only useful when all parties benefit from it," Verstappen, 35, wrote. "I sincerely believe that I, with my years of F1 experience, can help Spyker with the development of their car, but I'll need to get a fair chance. I want to test a minimum of two days but three would be better.
"Spyker CEO Michiel Mol and I have talked on the phone about this plan. I know him from my time at Arrows when his former company Lost Boys sponsored the team. We agreed to have a serious talk about the plans soon, until then I'm waiting patiently."
Spyker, however, said they currently have no plans to give the veteran racer a chance to test.
"As a team we are committed to our race and test drivers," a team spokesperson told autosport.com. "They are an integral part of our planned testing programme.
"While we appreciate his experience in F1 several years ago, Jos is not part of our current development plans and we remain dedicated to the drivers we have this year."
