Team KOOL Green driver, Paul Tracy has promised fans present at this weekend's Montreal Molson Indy an exciting race, despite the fact that the CART drivers are running several seconds a lap slower than their European rivals.
Formula One's pole position on the same track this season was set by Juan Pablo Montoya, a time over six seconds faster than the eventual pole set by Cristiano da Matta on Saturday, however Tracy has defended the CART series saying that the competitiveness is greater than that in Formula One where Michael Schumacher basically wins every race before it even starts.
Tracy qualified tenth for Sunday's race while KOOL Green teammate Dario Franchitti will start from second. But despite his lower spot on the grid, Tracy knows a win is still possible, even from the fifth row as that's what racing's all about.
"In F1, you have one guy that is basically going to win the race, Michael Schumacher," said Tracy, who qualified tenth. "If he has a problem, then you might have a race. In our series, a guy like Tony Kanaan can start dead last in the field and finish fourth. That doesn't happen in Formula One. Everyone's excited about racing on an F1 track this weekend. We all know our times will be slower. It's simple physics. Our cars are bigger, heavier and have harder tyres than F1. But our cars will be close in speed and the track suits our cars. It has long straights and deep, heavy braking zones that will give guys opportunities to pass. You don't see that in Formula One. We're going to put on a good race. Racing is what the fans want to see."
Cristiano da Matta, pole sitter for today's race, agrees with Tracy's observations and despite the fact that, just like Schumacher, the Brazilian driver is breaking records in the series, he knows his rivals have every chance of beating him on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit later today and closing the gap on his current lead.
"The biggest difference is that fans won't see one car going five or six seconds per lap quicker than the other cars," he explained. "All the field will be within 1.5 seconds of each other. All the chassis and the engines are very similar and that makes it more interesting."

Bernie gaat blij zijn dit te horen, amai
Cart lijkt me momenteel inderdaad wel een pak boeiender dan F1.
