Colin McRae believes that despite being outpaced by Marcus Gronholm last season, Richard Burns cab regain his World Rally title in 2003. Burns, who moved to Peugeot after winning the title with Subaru in 2001, finished fifth in the championship after failing to win a rally.
Marcus Gronholm dominated the season, taking five victories, including three other podium finishes, to destroy any hope Burns had of defending his title. But McRae believes that Burns will have learnt from his mistakes last year and will be better prepared for the coming season.
"Richard must have confidence in the car now and was certainly very quick in a lot of places last year," said McRae of Burns. "He just didn't string it together whereas Marcus did, but Richard was quicker than Marcus in a lot of places.
McRae conceded that next year's title will almost definitely go to one of the Peugeot chargers. "I'd tip Richard and Marcus," McRae said. "But Marcus is going for a third title and it's down to whether he has the enthusiasm and will to do it as he did before. I'd say Richard will be the toughest guy to beat."
