The No. 20 Chevrolet that NASCAR confiscated at Texas Motor Speedway in April remains at the sanctioning body's research and development facility in Concord, N.C. A high-ranking NASCAR official said the car would be scanned by an outside firm, likely sometime this week.
Why the scan? Likely so NASCAR can get an exact read on the dimensions of the car, which was taken after it failed to meet template specifications for the rear window and decklid.
As for a report that Toyota was going to get a look at the car's engine, the source just laughed. "Why would we let them? That's crazy."
Also, the engine taken from Dale Jarrett's Ford at The Winston will remain with NASCAR and will never be given back to Robert Yates Racing.
