ETCC PEUGEOT 307 READY FOR TESTING

The Peugeot 307 for the 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship will start testing next week, on 10th and 11th February on the French racetrack of Nogaro. The first car fully complying with the Super 2000 technical specifications – although still a 3-door model – has been nearly finished in the Peugeot Sport Engineering workshop in Slangerup, Denmark. Meanwhile, the team have already started working on the new 5-door shells, for which Peugeot Automobiles applied to the FIA for the S2000 homologation. The Peugeot Sport Engineering team have a great experience in Touring Car competition, having won the Danish Championship in the five latest seasons with 306 and 307 cars. According to the team’s managing director Jøren Agergaard, the new Peugeot 307 is due to make its ETCC debut on the season’s opening round in Monza, with the reigning Danish Touring Car champion and former-F1 star Jan Magnussen at the wheel. A second car, for 2002 Danish Touring Car champion Jason Watt, will be entered from the fourth or fifth meeting (Hockenheim and Brno respectively). Due to some dates clashing with the Danish Championship, the team have not finalized yet the number of ETCC events in which taking part, however they are increasing the personnel, in order to run parallel programmes in the Danish and the European championships.
