GP Masters..........de ouwe knarren komen uit rusthuis.
Wat is er aan de hand inde autosport? De ene naar de andere Formule klasse wordt uit de grond gestampt.........of men heeft het plan daartoe. Het raarste en misschien wel het leukste idee is de GP Masters.
Wagen? Een Zytek die ergens tussen een F1 en GP2 wagen komt te zitten qua snelheid, bloedje snel dus. De coureurs? Allemaal ouwe knarren die ooit eens in de F1 hebben gereden. De echte kerels met imago en charisma...........geen kleuter met puisten in zijn gezicht die zojuist heeft geleerd hoe hij zijn bips zelfstandig moeten afvegen.....uhhmm, sorry, ik bedoel de hedendaagse F1 coureurs   Trevor Foster, de baas bij Zytek, is bezig met de ontwikkeling van het eerste chassis. De motor zou een 3.4 liter V8 worden..........dezelfde als in de nieuwe A1 GP wagen. Meest opmerkelijke uitspraak van die Trevor is dat de cockpit iets ruimer zal zijn als gebruikelijk bij Formule wagens. Hoor ik daar Jos Verstappen al interesse tonen? De serie, met maximaal 20 wagens, zou van start gaan in september 2005 met een winterserie bestaande uit 3 tot 5 wedstrijden. De plannen zouden binnenkort officieel bekend worden gemaakt, e.e.a. weer uit de welbekende Autosport. Die nieuwe "gossip"-stijl is wel amusant om te lezen. Of het de kwaliteit ten goede komt is nog maar de vraag?

Zojuist de eerste advertentie gezien van deze serie in de Autosport van 16-09-04. Is dit "tabloid-achtige" bericht dan toch op weg om realiteit te worden? In de rijders die als mogelijke kandidaten worden gezien vinden we enkele landgenoten terug.
Wie? Boutsen, Gachot, Verstappen............ Wellicht ben ik super kritisch maar als de kwaliteit van de advertentie een maatstaf is voor het concept GP Masters dan mogen ze van mij part nu al stoppen. De slogan is: "Formula One has created Masters" Wat gebruiken ze dan als achtergrond? Een foto van een oval voorzien van Amerikaanse veiligheidmaatregelen die we niet terugzien in de F1 (ook niet op Indianapolis tijdens de F1)  O ja, geen telefoonnummer of website terug te vinden in die advertentie, wie o wie zit hierachter?

Het begint nu wel serieus te worden, de volgende namen hebben zich verbonden aan deze klasse:
-Alan Jones -Johnny Herbert -Christian Danner -Stefan Johansson Blijf het maar een maf idee vinden......

De ouwe knarren gaan dan toch van start in 2005. Tijdens een weekend (11-13 november) in Kyalami, Zuid-Afrika mogen we een (demo)race verwachten van de GP Masters. Eind maart zal de wagen zijn debuut beleven op de motorshow in Durban ZA.

 Alain Prost is een van de deelnemers tijdens de race in November. Volgende week zal de race gepresenteerd worden in Durban. Er zal dan ook een wagen te zien zijn, een Reynard FNippon uit '99 in de kleuren van de evenementen sponsors. De echte wagen is bij lange na niet klaar. Zou die serie dan toch van de grond komen? Toen ik voor de start van de GP wat aan't zappen was, stopte ik bij BBC World, daar was namelijk een lang en interessant interview bezig met voormalig F1 kampioen Emerson Fittipaldi!
Hij denk ook aan een 'comeback' in het racen tijdens de GP Masters! Als de wagen er is gaat hij met zijn dokters bezien of het mogelijk is. Hij heeft namelijk wat probleempjes met onderrug en nek meende ik te verstaan. Toen hij vroeger gestopt was, was hij fysiek nog in orde, maar mentaal zat het niet meer goed. Nu is hij er mentaal volledig klaar voor (hij zag er heel gelukkig uit trouwens), maar nu de vraag of het fysiek wel mogelijk is.

Niet echt in orde hoor Interceptor,hij had nekblessures opgelopen bij zijn crash in US 500 in Michigan,en daarna is hij nog es gecrashed met zijn privévliegtuigje waarbij hij zware verwondingen had opgelopen aan zijn rug,vandaar die probleempjes.

 Maar wel knap dat hij eventueel de GP Masters wil gaan rijden.
