Nuzzo Motorsports to Campaign Two Mini Coopers

12/04/02

Series: GA Cup

Nuzzo Motorsports announced today it will campaign two Mini Cooper S's in the Grand-Am Cup Series for the 2003 season. The cars will compete in Sport Touring I class and are currently in development. The team plans to have the cars ready for pre-season testing at Daytona International Speedway during Grand American Test Days, January 3-5, 2003.

Team owner/driver Tony Nuzzo said that the Mini Cooper S entries will be competitive and will also generate huge fan interest. "Since the introduction of the 'new' Mini, the cars have become very popular. We believe that popularity will continue as the fans support us on the racetrack. The Mini Cooper has a long history in racing, and we are looking forward to adding to that history with the new Mini S," noted Nuzzo.

"This is a fun project. Everyone we have talked to so far has been very enthusiastic about the Nuzzo Motorsports Mini entries. All the folks at Grand American have been very helpful in helping us establish this team. We continue to generate an enormous amount of support from our partners and sponsors," he added. "The challenge now is to prepare the cars for testing. Since we're the first to professionally field the new Minis, we have lots to learn but we are confident that the cars will be competitive."

Bodymotion, Inc. of Ocean, New Jersey, is preparing the race cars. "We're excited to be part of this project. When Tony first contacted me about building and supporting two race cars for the 2003 season, my first reaction was 'You want them WHEN?', but I knew we wanted to be part of this team. We have been involved in racing for many years and we look forward to a winning season with Nuzzo Motorsports," remarked Bodymotion owner Mike Bavaro.

Nuzzo Motorsports was created by driver Tony Nuzzo, who claimed third-place honors in the Grand-Am Cup Sport Touring II championship race in his first full year of professional racing. He was also recognized for his rookie-season performance by being awarded theracesite.com-sponsored "Rising Star" award for ST II drivers.
