More than five hours after the finish of Saturday's qualifying the FIA said they had approved a request from Jordan to allow Frentzen to replace the injured Fisichella, assuming there were no contractual difficulties and all teams agreed by Sunday morning.

Fisichella was hurt after crashing at more than 200kph in the morning's final free practice session. The Italian was taken to a hospital in nearby Nevers for a medical examination which revealed no damage, according to the Jordan team, but a FIA medical delegate advised Fisichella to rest.

The stewards of the French race said that Fisichella's accident was enough of an exceptional circumstance to allow him to be substituted by Frentzen.

Arrows, meanwhile, involved in a financial crisis, made just one attempt to post a qualifying time with Frentzen and teammate Enrique Bernodli finishing outside the 107 percent limit of the leader, Juan Pablo Montoya of Williams. Therefore the Arrows drivers did not officially qualify for the race but its participation kept it eligible for financial benefits of FIA.

Frentzen clocked 1:18.497 while Fisichella's morning practice time was good enough for 15th in that session at 1:14.949.

Frentzen drove for the Jordan team between 1999 and 2001 and won two Grand Prix races for them, including the 1999 French Grand Prix. However he was fired by the team just before the 2001 German Grand Prix and finished 2001 with the Prost team, which went out of business earlier this year.

Eerst smijten ze hem buiten en nu halen ze hem terug?!? Met dank aan Deutsche Post?!
Ik vraag me wel af hoe dit alles gaat verlopen. Frentzen kent de Jordan van 2002 niet en heeft enkel nog de warm-up om die te testen.
Welke kleding gaat hij aandoen? Die van Jordan? Welke helm gaat die opzetten? Hoeveel data krijgt hij over de auto? Welk rubber gaat er onder zijn wagen (hard of zacht)?

Ik hoop echt dat Frentzen morgen een show opvoert, maar ik vrees dat in een (van geboorte al nerveuze) wagen die hij niet kent, hij de nodige schuivers tegemoet gaat.

da wil ik echt wel zien morgen ....

zandbakken gegarandeerd ... niet omdat ik twijfel aan HH

ik denk wel niet dat ze van alle ex-piloten de stoeltjes nog meebrengen naar elke Grand Prix. En zo'n stoeltjes, verschillen die niet per bolide ? Dat ding moet enerzijds in de wagen passen, anderzijds moet het de coureur passen.

zelfs dit folietje gunnen ze ons niet meer in deze saaie F1-tijden ...
HH Frentzen rijdt niet voor Jordan vanmiddag ... maar 19 wagens aan de start dus ... triest diepterrecord, dit in het sowieso al saaie Nevers.

Komkom, we moeten het ook van de positieve kant bekijken: Hoogtepunt van het seizoen voor Alex Yoong; hij kwalificeert zich maar liefst op positie 19 ! BRAVO ALEX !!


Is het niet de beklimming van de Mont Ventoux vanmiddag ?

Conclusie van de dag; nooit geloven wat F1-live.com post want ze nemen alles nogal graag voor zeker aan :-)

Dat vind ik overigens terecht wel fijn aan sites als pitstop.tv, autosport.be of racingbelgium.com; het nieuws dat je bij die mannen leest is bijna altijd enkel écht nieuws (en vaak nog Belgisch ook).
