Tja de naam Menard is een bekende uit de States, maar die hebben dus iets opgekocht in Europa. Wat dan? Een aantal divisies van de voormalige TWR group (o.a. de mensen achter de eerste versie van de Renault Clio V6). Meer info over TWR in een nieuw jasje: http://www.melglobal.com/

Menard is dan wel een DP aan het bouwen, dat wil niet zeggen dat die wagen ooit gaat racen. Grand-Am heeft de markt voor constructeurs goed afgeschermd, diegene die destijds het risico durfden te nemen om een project op te starten worden nu beloond met een afgeschermde markt. Omzet c.q. winst verzekerd Menard was destijds te laat om mee te mogen doen in deze afgeschermde markt, desonddanks is men verder blijven werken aan dit project.

Deze Britse Menard maakt alleen een kans om te worden toegelaten als enkele constructeurs wegvallen, gezien het succes is dat niet een te verwachten scenario. Maar wie weet, wellicht iets voor Hartman of een andere Europeaan die het wel ziet zitten.


Het model dat in de Autosport van afgelopen week staat afgebeeld ziet er overigens geheel anders uit. Dat is een foto van een schaalmodel tijdens een beurs op de Farnborough Air Show

Dat model lijkt enorm op de voor Le Mans bestemde Nissan R 390, en werd dat project toevallig door Nissan niet uitbesteed aan TWR?

Dat is een belediging voor de Nissan. Ik zie overigens weining overeenkomsten met de R390.

Wisten jullie trouwens dat er al een Porsche DP was in 1992? Zie auto 8 op deze website

Ghehehe, die 962 is toch wel even wat fraaier (en sneller) als die Daytona Proto's.

Volgens mij is dit gewoon de Dauer-Porsche, de door Jochen Dauer gebouwde baanversie van de 962.

Ben ik het met Bram eens, stuk fraaier die 956/962/ en de varianten daarop.

Die DP's kan ik alleen zien als een hopeloos mislukte karikatuur op het Prototype thema.

Niet alleen voor de baan Dauer heeft ook een tamelijk zieke straatversie gebouwd, is onofficieel (want "niet door de juiste instanties gemeten") nog steeds de snelste "straatauto" met een top van ong. 400 km/h.

Hardnekkig gerucht uit de States, Penske schijnt bezig te zijn met een DP-project. Kon weleens iets met Menard te maken hebben.........

Kwamen de Penske Indycars destijds ook niet uit de UK?

Ik dacht dat ze geen nieuwe constructeurs toelaten? (Maar voor Penske maken ze waarschijnlijk wel een uitzondering).

Blijven volhouden is de boodschap. Menard heeft toch een voet tussen de deur gekregen binnen de DP Grand AM markt. Bij de presentatie van een nieuw team (aan deelnemers geen gebrek) namelijk Hypersport lezen we het volgende:
