Quote:
Bilbao will host a street race in 2005!
An urban race in the Basque region

The most successful single-seater Series after Formula One will contest an urban race in Bilbao.

Ander Vilariño, the Basque - French team Epsilon-Euskadi frontrunner, is one of the best references of the World Series by Nissan.

The city of Bilbao and RPM Racing may led to Bilbao the most important motorsport events besides Formula One, the World Series by Nissan.

The World Series by Nissan, World Series Light and Formula Junior Spanish Championship races are a unique racing weekend in the world of motorsport. This Series are a professional motorsports pyramid, with single seaters between 125 and 450 hp featuring more than 60 cars on the track, allowing the drivers to show this splendid high- tech sport.

The project was presented yesterday at the Bilbao City Hall and the track design is original from Jaume Nogué, member of the FIA Technical Comitee. Bilbao is expected to represent one of the best urban layouts of the 21st century. The track will have more than 3.980 meters of length, with a minimum track-width of 10 meters, 19 left corners, 14 right corners and a 10440 m2 of paddock area.

The paddock area, placed in the Zorrozaurre neibourhood, near the Bilbao River, will display 26 boxes, as well as other work areas and team parking facilities. In this area, the track will describe an important angle (near the Deusto University).

This area will be completed with grandstands, presenting very interesting views to the public. Gran Vía Street will be another important sight area.

The circuit's project promoted by the modern town of Bilbao, underlines three important concepts: safety, optimal view points for the crowd and good adaptation to the track facilities as well as keeping the minimum environment and acoustic impacts.

In order to success in these concepts, the roadway will be improved and there will exist two protection lines, reinforced concrete walls and FIA homologated metallic barriers.

Besides, it has been designed a protection line along both sides of the track and a second scored safety line based in tyre protections will be displayed.

The crowd allocation, grandstands and natural lawns will be designed trying to avoid the urban elements as well as the normal traffic situation.

In 1998, the Formula Nissan was born with both the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo and the FIA support with one aim: to allow the Spanish driver's step into the Formula One.

In a record time, the young winner of the first championship, nowadays one of the most reputed Formula One drivers, linked with the BMW.WilliamsF1 team since three2001, became the first driver to enter a Formula One team since 1989.

Only a year later, 16-year-old teenager and Junior World Karting Champ Fernando Alonso, was close to burst into our life. Fernando Alonso wasn't that known at the moment, but his fantastic performance in the Formula Nissan made him champion in the last race, getting the passport through a successful motorsport career.

During the 4 years of the Formula Nissan existence, the national circuits turned out to be filled again, while a new comprehension of the single-seater European formulas was settled.

The enthusiasm allowed RPM Racing to continue with a new car concept development, the Dallara Nissan F1-styled single seater, initially equipped with a 400 hp powered Nissan engine, and lately boosted to 450 HP. The new car improves widely the Formula 3000 lap times.

Through the years, most of the drivers who have competed in the World Series by Nissan, currently winning other international car racing competitions and carry the World Series spirit with them.

The grown of interest on the World Series by Nissan is based partially in drivers such as Fernando Alonso, Ricardo Zonta of Franck Montagny but also in its efforts made upon the areas of marketing and communication.

The World Series races are being broadcasted in more than 77 countries around the world. From the United States to Japan. Besides of being a reference for all Formula One promising drivers, the World Series has there own life. Winning the World Series is the main achievement of their drivers.

Among the World Series by Nissan reference drivers, it is compulsory to talk about the Basque man Ander Vilariño, who alongside Jean- Cristophe Ravier, races under the colours of the Basque-French team, based in Azkoitia, Epsilon-Euskadi.

His manager, Michel Lecomte and the prestigious advice of the experienced Joan Viladelprat supports this team linked to an investigation project from the University of Mondragón.

Briefly, the street race in Bilbao will become a unique race event in the World Series by Nissan calendar.

The main involvements for this event to take place at the city of Bilbao are:
- The existence of car racing support and the precedent of Ander Vilariño.
- The non-existence of a permanent circuit in the North of Spain.
- Reinforce of the leisure, cultural and tourism offer of the city of Bilbao.
- It means a singular event for the city.
- Implies a high economic impact in terms of PIB and employment.
- Strong media effectiveness and stimulating effect of the Bilbao's image.
- A boost for the associated sectors (tourism, services and automotive).

Tristan Gommendy bij Saulnier Racing in 2004!

Quote:
Saulnier Racing unveils 2004 driver line-up

Tristan Gommendy will make his debut in the World Series by Nissan

The 2003 Season allowed the French squad Saulnier Racing to finish its first year of the World Series by Nissan in a positive way, with Bruno Besson visiting the podium three times and achieving one pole position. Saulnier Racing faces its second season with good hopes, and will trust the drive of one of its Dallara Nissan cars to the driver Tristan Gommendy.

“Having Tristan with us will let us go over a new period in terms of results. Our first season gave us a good experience in this discipline. Besides that, this Series will be the perfect match for Gommendy's racing career. Certainly he is one of the best French values in the single seater competition”, says team-owner Serge Saulnier.

Tristan Gommendy, former French F3 Champion and winner of the Macao GP in 2002, has an important background in single-seaters. Current member of the FFSA team, we putted some impressive drives last year in the FR V6 Eurocup, finishing third.

His first drive with the Dallara Nissan will take place the next 9 of March at El Jarama Circuit, close to Madrid. Gommendy is keen to drive the 450 HP car.
”The Dallara Nissan from the World Series is a very competitive car and its driving must be quite pleasant. Saulnier Racing has achieved some good results even though they were totally newcomers. Together we can do great things, specially after the winter development work in the factory”.

World Series voor Bas Leinders
