Een andere indicatie hoe hoog het nivo wel moet zijn in NASCAR-land is het verhaal rondom Marcos Ambrose. Deze Australiër wil uiteindelijk richting NASCAR Nextel Cup maar voor zover het is zal hij zich eerst moeten bewijzen in de Nascar Craftsman Truckseries en daarna in de Nascar Bush serie. Omdat doel te bereiken heeft hij een 4-jarig contract op zak.
Is die Ambrose dan een prutser? Niet echt, in de afgelopen jaren is hij twee keer Australisch V8 Supercar kampioen geweest. Daarnaast nog twee keer terecht gekomen in de top 50 van Autosport's beste coureurs. Qua "status" in autosportland staat die Ambrose een stuk hoger dan "the roadcourse ace from Belgium" Of dat terecht is kan ik niet beoordelen, daarvoor is mijn kennis te beperkt. In 2006 zal hij als rookie deelnemen aan de Nascar Craftsman Truckseries maar denk maar niet dat hij in elke wedstrijd mag starten. De eerste drie wedstrijden van de Trucks vinden plaats op de supersnelle ovalen van Daytona, California Speedway en Atlanta en de Nascar-officials geven Ambrose gen toestemming om daar te starten. Te gevaarlijk voor een rookie, eerst de kleine ovals en dan door naar de grote ovals. Let wel, we spreken hier over een klasse onder de Bush-serie. Behaalde resultaten of gewonnen kampioenschappen in Europa of Australie maken weinig indruk op die NASCAR-Amerikanen. Je begint daar vanaf 0! Als je dan in je eerste wedstrijd, weliswaar op een roadcourse, het hele spel naar huis rijdt in de trainingen en voor een gedeelte in een wedstrijd dan laat je wel een indruk achter. De wagen van Marcos Ambrose na een schuiver tijdens een race van het Brits F3 kampioenschap op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps in 2000.

wat ook wel leuk was :
de commentators van MRN Radio spraken zijn naam behoorlijk goed uit. In UK was het stevast "goesens", de amerikanen spraken "goossens" redelijk goed uit met een "goo" zoals het startwoord "go". Tja moeilijk om uit te leggen maar wie het hoorde weet wat ik bedoel  Een beetje zoals de Nederlanders het doen "gowsens"

In alle geval ziet het er voor Marc wel heel goed uit voor volgend jaar, enkel jammer dat wij hem nog maar weinig aan het werk gaan kunnen zien zo.
