Heel zeker, het bericht heeft even op autosport.com gestaan (bij autosport professional). Welke motor weet ik niet. Er zou voor de nieuwe Legend en NSX een 4.0l V8 gebouwd worden maar dat is nog niet voor morgen. Ze kunnen natuurlijk ook de Honda V8 uit de CART-series gebruiken

Accord V8 on the grid

Honda has become the fourth manufacturer to confirm approval for the SCV8 Supercar Championship. Approval from Honda for its Accord brand to be represented, takes the all-new championship to within one manufacturer of its target of five brands for 2004.

So far approved cars include the Honda Accord, Jaguar X Type, Peugeot (2004 Saloon) and the Vauxhall Vectra.

Andy Rouse, four-time BTCC Champion and creator of the SCV8 concept said: “This is fantastic news. We never expected to confirm four brands so quickly following the announcement of the series on 1 July. To have such respected manufacturers approving the use of their brands within the series is extremely positive for the championship and demonstrates the serious level of interest that exists in SCV8 Supercars .”

SCV8 features a team franchise scheme where leading race teams will apply to exclusively represent one of the five brands, with each franchise holder building four cars to create a 20-car grid for 2004. Each of the five franchise teams can enter all four cars themselves or sell up to two of them for entry via appointed satellite teams. In future years, the grid will expand to eight manufacturer brands to provide the ultimate 32-car grid.

The SCV8 Supercar Championship is already well ahead of target for its 2004 launch. The Jaguar X-Type SCV8 successfully completed its initial shakedown tests last Friday at Silverstone, and a comprehensive database of teams and drivers have expressed serious interest in the championship. Allied to a high level of commercial interest from sponsors to television and now the acceptance of four manufacturers, the SCV8 Championship is ahead of schedule on all fronts.

SCV8 has been developed with the aim of bringing fans a series that features the excitement and spectacle of extremely high performance, yet easily recognisable, saloon cars for fast and furious championship racing. The V8, 550bhp, rear wheel drive configuration of the cars guarantees crowd pleasing action and has been designed to put the wow! factor back into British motor racing.

Help, Andy Rouse en zijn SUPERCAR Promotions Limited (organisator SCV8) zijn door hun informatie mappen heen. Reeds 100 teams en rijders hebben een map ontvangen...........dat wil dus zeggen dat het "leeft" in de UK.

100 maal intresse is zeer zeker geen 100 maal deelname, maar toch........het kon weleens mooi worden.

In de komende weken zouden de eerste deals bekend gemaakt gaan worden.

De eerste deals zijn bekend gemaakt, het zijn niet de minste.

Team Vic Lee Motorsports, Team Dynamics en Team Varta zijn de eerste 3 van 5 mogelijke franchise-teams. Oftewel 12 van de 20 startplaatsen zijn "verkocht" E.e.a. wil niet zeggen dat ze alle drie met 4 wagens aan de start zullen komen. Elk franchise team kan twee plaatsen doorverkopen..............

Verlaten deze teams dan de BTCC? Nee, de drie hebben wel de intentie om hun BTCC deelname voort te zetten.

Onderhuids zijn de SCV8's allemaal gelijk, de buitenkant niet. Daar is ook al meer van bekend:

Vic Lee Motorsports: Peugeot 407
Varta: Vauxhall Vectra

en britten komen ook niet zo graag an dat eilandje af....jah en circuits zijn er genoeg..silverstone,brands hatch, donnington knockhill, oulton park etc

Het ziet er dus niet goed uit voor dit kampioenschap, uitgesteld voor 2004................ze plannen nu voor 2005

Dus of dat kampioenschap ooit doorgaat is nog maar de vraag? Als ik het goed heb bestaan er nu drie auto's van de SCV8 serie.........kunnen die al een jaartje oefenen in de Belcar

The site also reports Neville as insisting that no driver had been lined up for the drive, but imagine the publicity for the series if McRae was to have a stab? With nothing certain on the horizon for the WRC star save for a run at Le Mans in the offing, a drive at some of the BTCC races in 2004 would be sure to boost the series, especially with its new live to air ITV1 coverage.

Something for series boss Alan Gow to be working on...
Ik ben alvast benieuwt ...

ALS het moest zijn dat Colin McRae gaat rijden in de BTCC, dan mogen we wel gaan spreken van een échte alround driver. (WRC, Dakar en BTCC. whats next ...???)
