De Binnie Lola zal volgend jaar uitgerust worden met de Zytek V8 i.p.v. de Nicholson-Mclaren V8 die niet betrouwbaar bleek.

Voor de puristen onder ons, zelfs 16.00 is niet heilig op Le Mans i.v.m. de start. Vanwege het WK voetbal is het startschot dit jaar om 17.00 uur.

Is schijnbaar een paar jaar geleden ('00 of '98?) ook al het geval geweest.


De keuze van Binnie voor een Zytek lijkt me een goede keuze. Als je tegenwoordig als priveteam voorin mee wilt draaien in LMP1 dan moet je een Zytek, Judd of eventueel een Mugen motor hebben.

Op Mulsanne's corner staan enkele nieuwtjes overgenomen uit Racecar Engineering magazine.
  • De Porsche RS Spyder zou gefinancieerd zijn door Don Panoz om meer publiciteit te bekomen voor ALMS (en dus niet door Porsche North America) De wagen zou ook gebaseerd zijn op de Porsche LMP2000, het LMP900 project dat nooit geraced heeft
  • De Zytek 06S zal een hybride LMP1 zijn, maar zal later via een upgrade kit omgebouwd kunnen worden in een echte LMP1. Geen echt nieuws natuurlijk. Zytek zou ook kijken na hybride elektrische aandrijving; Zytek was immers ook betrokken bij de hybride Panoz Q9 GT1 uit 1998.
  • Verder nog het bekende nieuws dat over het Taurus diesel project en het feit dat Ricardo geld gekregen heeft om de V10 race diesel te ontwikkelen tot een echte motor.

Ik zal mezelf maar even corrigeren voordat een ander het doet:
Binnie heeft natuurlijk een LMP2 ipv LMP1 (ik was in de war met Jota, die overigens reeds een Zytek motor hebben).

Ik blijf overigens van mening dat men zowel in LMP1 als LMP2 klasse een motor van een gerenomeerde fabrikant moet hebben indien men voorin mee wil strijden.

Startuur is al vaker veranderd. 98 was het geweven tussen de Roland Garros Finale en Wk Voetbal.

Het moet toch fijn zijn om zo'n artikel te kunnen schrijven: " ...avec les chaînes internationales désireuses de retransmettre ces deux événements d'envergure planétaire ..." Jezelf een wereldwijd evenement kunnen noemen...
