BAR 007 de snelste F1 ooit

Lijkt me wel een unieke recordpoging. zeker nu de F1 volgend jaar trager wordt zal het niet zo snel volgens het geldende reglement verbroken worden.

Ergens op het forum van autosport-atlas staan er al foto's van hun eerste testen in Bonneville.

Ik ben toch eens benieuwd. Al dat zout dat bij centimeters overal aan blijft plakken, als dat maar goed gaat. Bonneville..., als ik ooit de kans krijg om naar de speedweek toe te gaan, zal ik dat niet laten liggen.

Al was het maar om te zien dat de aarde echt rond is. De Bonneville zoutvlakte is een van de weinige plaatsen in de wereld waar je bolling van de aarde aan de horizon kunt waarnemen.

De wagen zelf had ik veel extremer verwacht qua vleugelwerk. Eigenlijk dus geen vleugels.......

Volgens de site gaat de poging gebeuren met een BAR 067, daar moeten we nog 60 jaar op wachten vrees ik

Verder ziet de site er wel netjes uit moet ik toegeven! Alan Van Der Merwe krijgt precies de gelegenheid om dit record te vestigen?!

De eerste pogingen enkele weken terug zijn mislukt. Het eerste probleem waar ze mee te maken kregen was het zicht van de piloot. Omdat de ondergrond toch niet zo vlak was als gedacht zag Van der Merwe niks meer door de vibraties. Gevolgd door een periode slecht weer is het project tijdelijk afgeblazen.

Volgende week gaan ze een nieuw test uitvoeren op Mojave Airport in Californië. Niet om het record te breken maar om bepaalde zaken te testen. Mocht dat allemaal lukken dan gaan ze het volgend jaar opnieuw proberen

De BAR zou tijdens de test op het vliegveld van Mojave een gemiddelde snelheid hebben bereikt van 415 km/uur.

Omdat het hier echter ging om een test zal deze snelheid niet de geschiedenisboeken ingaan.
