Following receipt of a dossier of new evidence relating to events at the 2005 United States Grand Prix submitted to the FIA by BAR, McLaren, Renault, Sauber, Toyota and Williams, the FIA Senate met in Monaco on 14 July. Ron Dennis attended the meeting, having been appointed representative of six Michelin teams. He was accompanied by Christian Horner from Red Bull Racing.

Having examined the new evidence and discussed it with Mr Dennis and Mr Horner, the Senate was satisfied that the teams were contractually bound to follow the instructions of their tyre supplier and that their tyre supplier had expressly prohibited them from racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in its licensed configuration. Recognising that for both sporting and legal reasons it was impossible for the FIA to authorise a change to the circuit configuration and that both the FIA and the teams could have faced serious legal difficulties in the United States had they not observed to the letter their respective rules and contractual obligations (particularly had there been any kind of accident), the Senate was of the view that having regard to this new evidence, disciplinary proceedings against the teams had ceased to be appropriate and were no longer in the interest of the sport.

The Senate will therefore recommend to the World Motor Sport Council that the guilty verdict of 29 June against the teams be cancelled. It is anticipated that this recommendation will be put to the World Motor Sport Council by means of a fax vote in the next few days.

Vreemd verhaal dit, dat een leverancier van goederen aan een bedrijf datzelfde bedrijf kan verplichten om die goederen niet te gebruiken.
Volgens mij (maar wie ben ik), heeft de fia gezocht naar een goede reden om de teams te straffen, nadat deze met acties gedrijgt hadden. Bewijsmateriaal van deze soort zou normaal gesproken binnen een paar uur al gekend moeten zijn. niet...?

Wat een fantastische tekst. De FIA zit op de knïeën maar door deze tekst lijden ze geen gezichtsverlies. Politiek van de hoogste plank.
Max heeft waarschijnlijk gedacht "if you cannot beat them, join them"
Mijn voorspellingen van na de USA Grote Prijs lijken uit te komen (zie vroeger in dit forum)
Max heeft het pleit verloren. De rebellen gaan het heft van het F1 gebeuren in hand nemen. Bernie heeft aan de zijkant afgewacht en gaat nu het kamp van de winnaars kiezen (beter minder centen dan helemaal geen centen). De Formule 1 gaat verder onder de FIA paraplu organiseren, maar de FIA zal nog alleen dienen voor het decorum en enkele graantjes zullen ze ook mogen meepikken.
Laatste onzekerheid is of Paultje Stoddart baas/woordvoerder zal worden van de rebellen. Rad van de tong is hij zeker, maar is hij representatief genoeg? Ik begin te twijfelen; nu alles opgelost lijkt (weliswaar met nieuwe spelregels) is een doordrammer type als Stoddart misschien niet geschikt.
Ik denk dat wij in de nabije toekomst alleen nog van beide kanten zegevierende berichten zullen horen hoe eendrachtig men wel is en hoe goed de toekomst van de F1 er wel uitziet.
De grote onbekende blijft nog wat met Ferrari zal gebeuren. Enerzijds zou het een godsgeschenk zijn voor het noodlijdende Fiat Groep om geen 12 miljard BF (neen geen Euro) per jaar meer te moeten uitgeven; anderzijds is de deelname van Ferrari toch een fantastische vitrine voor de Fiat groep en zo slecht het Fiat gaat, zo goed gaat het Ferrari. Mijn glazen bol is nog volledig duister.
