Huidige LMP regels verlengd in ALMS:

Quote:
The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) announced today that in cooperation with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), it has extended the eligibility of all LMP cars in the American Le Mans Series.

LMP cars that were homologated under the 2003 ACO LMP900 and P675 specs, including those based on the SR specifications, have been extended effective through the end of December 2006. Those machines will compete in today's Generac 500 at Road America.

Importantly the bulletin also extends the eligibility of hybrid cars that conform to the ACO's rules in the ALMS through the end of 2007. Those cars are currently eligible in ACO competition until the end of 2006. The hybrid regulations provide a mechanism for 2003 specification cars to convert their aerodynamic package to match the 2005 specifications.

This bulletin means that cars like the Audi R8, and the Lola EX257 and B2K/40, as well as cars like the factory Zytek and others running in European competition, will be allowed to run in the American Le Mans Series next year. IMSA, the sanctioning body of the ALMS, has mandated that the cars will run based on the ACO-specified configuration for 2005. Certain specific configurations are covered in various IMSA bulletins.

  • Sascha Maassen/Lucas Luhr/Emmanuel Collard
  • Timo Bernhard/Romain Dumas/Patrick Long
3de piloot enkel tijdens Sebring en Petit Le Mans.

BMW keert terug in het ALMS komend seizoen.

Quote:
Team PTG, BMW's primary U.S. motorsports research and development team for the manufacturer's M3 model, will go down in history again in 2006. The two-car effort will be the first of what is expected to be many entrants in the new GT2S class, a subcategory of GT2. Created by IMSA to encourage passenger car participation for sedan-style cars, all GT2S teams will compete for GT2 points and podium positions in the American Le Mans Series, but they will not be eligible for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Culminating an unprecedented week of competitor growth, the American Le Mans Series announced today Lexus as the second of two elite manufacturers that in a three-day span have made commitments to field a two-car, factory-backed racing program for the 2006 season.

Cars competing in GT2S are not eligible for the 24 Hours of Le Mans at this time. However, GT2S entries will be classified in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series and will be eligible to score championship points. Series officials are working closely with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) to evaluate the involvement of GT2S cars in the American Le Mans Series with the possibility of making them eligible for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the future.
