motorsport= te groot voor zijn eigen kunnen ?
Quote:
Motorsport does not have a God given right to be a successfull sport. Motorsport certainly does not have a God given right to attract the same kind of money and media attentions it attracts today.
With the start up of yet another F1 feeder formula in the form of the Super Renault series. A series that is meant to bridge the gap between F3 and F3000. Really ??? Where is the gap ???
Just a small reminder about the F1 feeder series we already "enjoy" (brace yourself for this): F3000, FNippon, EuroF3000, Formula Nissan, Formula Dallara-Nissan World Series, Formula Renault (Raikonen...), F3 Great Britain, F3 France, F3 Germany, F3 SudAm and F3 Japan + a couple of series I probably have forgotten. In addition, you can add CART, the upcoming Formula BMW, Premier1 + the defunct Palmer Audi series. This is in effect the F1 feeder ladder system. Or more a kind of full anarchy.
How can for example Eddie Jordan say that driver A is better than driver B when they race in totally different feeder series ? This is even before Eddie Jordan offer an expensive two days long test drive to check out the driver. Not an easy job.....
Would Massa had been chosen for Sauber if he had driven against Enge, Wilson and Webber in F3000 ? Sauber now have second thoughts about Massa.
In any case, all those feeder series makes motorsport look bad to the general public. It is confusing. It also divert good sponsorship away from places where it really are needed. For example to help genuine fast drivers in good racing series.
Motorsport competes with soccer, american football, baseball, icehockey etc. etc. etc. for the media exposure and sponsorship money. To get the maximum out of motorsport, we should get rid of the weaker series and get a more structured feeder programme. Then the press/media will start to take notice of the series outside F1 too. Let us bring back the Formula Ford, European F3 serie and the F2 feeder structure.
What is your views ???????
